DIRTY LOOK at the Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival, 2020

This is a simple scene, without words or explanation – but it’s full of suspense. There’s something purely cinematic about the decision to permit this creature the freedom to do what it wants to do when it wants to do it…

The bird continues to stare at us, silently, waiting for us to accept our guilt, to be ashamed for ignoring the warning signs while continually damaging the environment. Do we consider all human and nonhuman lives with whom we share the planet? Can we prevent further damages?
The title has multiple meanings – who is looking at whom, and whose look is dirty? And who or what looks dirty?
